Special Honorees Announced for Sports Media Marketing Awards

May 03, 2011
PromaxBDA is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Lifetime Innovator Award and the Game Changer Award for the 2011 Sports Media Marketing Summit & Awards to be held in New York City on November 15.

The Lifetime Innovator Award highlights someone who has demonstrated major influence and progress in the sports media industry. This year’s honoree is Peter Moore, COO of Electronic Arts. With more than 25 years of gaming and entertainment experience, Moore has revived EA SPORTS and Electronic Arts in the gaming and sports world, cementing Electronic Arts as a well-recognized and well-respected brand in digital and product development.

The Game Changer Award honors someone who makes waves in the wider culture through technology, creativity and transformative business models. This year’s recipient is Billy Beane, VP and GM of the Oakland A’s, who, over the course of his baseball career has gone from player to innovator. Beane’s pioneering of the use of sabermetric analysis is the subject of Michael Lewis’s critically acclaimed book “Moneyball,” which was recently released as a film starring Brad Pitt as Beane.

“These men are dynamic forces in the industry,” said Jonathan Block-Verk, president and CEO of PromaxBDA. “Moore’s work at Reebok, SEGA, Electronic Arts and EA SPORTS shows a lifetime of creativity and originality in the evolution of his brand, and Billy Beane has challenged the way we think about baseball. He truly is a game changer.”

Another development for this year’s ceremony is the introduction of the TITANIUM AWARD, which will showcase the crème de la crème of this year’s four main sections: international and national; regional and local; teams, leagues, conferences and collegiate; and sponsor and corporate partner. The top three from each section will be eligible for the TITANIUM AWARD, and winners will be selected from each category by an elite jury of sports industry leaders who represent top sports companies including ESPN, Fox Sports, MLB, NFL, NBA, Turner Broadcasting, “Sports Illustrated” and DIRECTV.
